Walter Berge and H. C. Fell present a concert in two acts with shadow play and strings. In the late nineteenth century, ideas of the spirit world’s presence in everyday life circulated widely: spiritualism, and the aestheticisation of a society in decline. Byron wrote about vampires, Baudelaire popularised the concept of decadence, and Oscar Wilde argued that art could say nothing other than that it was beautiful.
